Homeschool Art Classes

DSCN6565

Winter Home school art classes were a lot of fun for everyone involved.  Students were exposed to various types of art mediums, ideas and projects over the six winter sessions.

DSCN6675

We had two classes: one for kindergarten through fifth grades and another from sixth grade through high school.

DSCN6678

Students enjoyed exploring various mixed media projects that used many new art ideas and techniques.

DSCN6719

Developing motor skills and visual perception is an important factor in elementary art as students master using scissors and glue.

DSCN6724

Concentration and eye and hand coordination are also vital in the developmental process for many art projects.

DSCN6743

Older students explored collage and design as they pushed their creative ideas into new directions.

DSCN6745

New materials and mediums and new possibilities push students into new opportunities with the creative process.

DSCN6843

A big part of our classes is to introduce many new creative possibilities to students to explore and discover on their creative journeys.

Paper flowers

The home-school art class learned how to create paper flowers.

It’s amazing what one can create with some colored tissue paper, flexi-sticks (pipe cleaners) and learning  a few new ways to fold paper.

It’s fun to learn a new skill and to explore all the variations you can come up with on a basic idea.

The kids had a lot of fun in producing their own flower creations.

Everyone joined together to create a large beautiful bouquet of handmade flowers!

Drawing the out-of-doors

The home-school art class had a drawing session outdoors to explore viewing the environment around the Art Junction and capturing it in a drawing.

This was a new experience for the students and a great way to learn how to really look at the world around us that we tend to take for granted.

Drawing outside is known as “Plein Air” drawing. Literally translated, this French term means “in the open air”.

Drawing and painting outside is a common thing for artists to do today, but as writer Marion Boddy Evans explains, “…in the late 1800s when the Impressionists ventured out of their studios into nature to investigate and capture the effects of sunlight and different times of days on a subject, it was quite revolutionary.”

French Impressionist painters such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir advocated en plein air painting, and much of their work was done outdoors, in the diffuse light provided by a large white umbrella. The popularity of outdoor painting has endured throughout the 20th century and continues today at the Art Junction!

Everyone had fun in this great creative exercise on a warm spring afternoon in north-central Ohio.

The shape of flowers

The home-school art class explored creating flowers beginning with the circle shape.

Starting with a circle the students begin to transform the shape into a flower with scissors, removing various shapes to imitate a flower design.

Next the students add various layers of shapes to their flower to create a layered flower design.

With many colors, shapes and sizes to employ into their image students have many choices to make in creating their flower design.

It’s really fun to watch the creative process bloom in these kids as they immerse themselves in making art.

As the flower project continues to grow, so does the students’ confidence in their artistic achievements.

Every child is an artist.  The problem is staying an artist when you grow up.  -Pablo Picasso
