Landscape is the depiction in art of natural scenery where the main subject is a wide view, with its elements arranged into a coherent composition. Landscape views in art may be entirely imaginary or copied from reality with varying degrees of accuracy, expression or abstraction. Come; view the painting and photography of nine Ohio artists who each have a unique view of their wonderful world and the beauty they are revealing to you, the viewer. Drue Roberts

DSCN4348

Drue Roberts graduated from Willard High School in 1993 and went on to study Geology. After graduate school, he became an environmental geologist performing studies at superfund sites, the military and national laboratories. Drue is a self-taught artist who specializes in acrylic painting and has shown his work in Santa Fe, New Mexico and in Ohio. He and his wife have travelled the country and now reside in Granville, Ohio with their two boys.  Drue had a one man show at the Art Junction in the fall of 2012.

Art is an extension of the inner artist and there is always some trepidation in sharing so much of one’s self. “When I think of showing my artwork in my hometown, it simply terrifies me,” Roberts shared. “Here I stand at the midpoint of my life worrying how people I haven’t seen in 20 years will react to it. Much of what I’ve spent my life seeing, analyzing and interpreting is wrapped up in these paintings.” A lot of how he sees the world has been colored by his experiences and the culture that exists in Willard, Ohio.

Art Camp Jr.

DSCN8832

Art Camp Jr. was held this past week, and all of the kids enjoyed our theme of bugs.

100_4487

On the first day of camp everyone explored building their own imaginary bug out of found objects in the Art Junction.  The second day, campers worked on painting and designing their bugs.

DSCN8820

Campers also created chalk art bugs using many new techniques.

DSCN8840

Campers also used watercolor paint to begin a bug painting.

DSCN8839

Adding marker to the watercolor design, campers defined their images with strong lines.

DSCN8835

Examples of some wonderfully fun bugs.

DSCN8837

Picasso said that “every child is an artist.  The problem is how to remain an artist once they grow up.”  I think I know the answer: continue to make art with kids.

100_4528

Finally we explored mixing primary and secondary colors with paint scrapers.

100_4521

Everyone enjoyed the action and texture created with scrapers and paints.

100_4526

Art Camp Jr. was a wonderful time of exploration, creativity and plain old fun!
