Art Camp -day1

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Art Camp began with a focus on shapes.

100_7759

Campers chose many shapes to create a three-dimensional design with layer shapes.

100_7760

Lots of focus and concentration went into the design and creation of their art.

100_7761

Next students began to glue down their shapes.

100_7780

Next step was to add a coat of white paint to their creation.

100_7773

The white paint added a unifying factor to their work.

100_7776

After the painting of the projects we moved outdoors for more painting.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We did some rock painting.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Adding lots of painted texture to the rocks.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Campers worked on a circle mural begun by Art Camp Jr. campers.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Campers added detail to the circles.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We ended the first day by working on the outdoor mural.

Campers created some wonderful art and memories.

Art Camp -day 3

DSCN8900

The final day of Art Camp was about tye-dye.

100_4721

Everyone learned about the process from preparing the shirts in soda ash…

100_4746

to tying the shirts in certain patterns for the various dyed designs.

100_4753

Everyone picked a color pattern for their shirts and began the process of adding color.

100_4739

Tye-dye is always lots of work and much fun, and it’s a great thing to be able to wear the art you make in the end.  What a great Art Camp this summer!

Art Camp -day 1

DSCN8843

This year Art Camp focused on the theme of color.

DSCN8842

We began with a warm-up exercise to work together combining small amounts of color and lines with other media.

DSCN8846

This fun little exercise has some wonderful results.

DSCN8848

Campers discussed color, images, and shapes, and we talked about how we combined these elements in our last little exercise.

100_4647Campers worked as a team incorporating their ideas on two large outdoor paintings.

100_4649

Everyone had fun exploring how to cover the large white areas.

100_4648

It was a little intimidating at first, but eventually everyone jumped into the creative experience!

100_4654

Splattering the paint was lots of fun!

100_4665

Using the brush and mixing colors had several creative challenges that were soon overcome.

100_4663

The introduction of spray paint and learning how to use it gave the paintings a whole new level of fun and new layers of color.

DSCN8856

By the close of day one campers were covered with paint and creative expression.

100_4662

Campers were tired after a full morning of color exploration and painting.

100_4660

But everyone was looking forward to day 2 and continuing the creative process of Art Camp.

A walk in the park

For our last digital photography class the group took a walk in the Willard Park to explore the many wonders to a photographer’s eye.

Part of the skill of a photographer is to turn an ordinary scene into an interesting image.

Everyone has their own vision of the everyday landscape that surrounds them.  It’s the photographer’s job to find the beauty in the ordinary.

Sometimes beauty is discovered through a gray scale of a black and white image.

One of the joys of this class was the fun of discovery, finding something new through the lens of a camera and learning how to compose a compelling image.  Maybe you can join us for a class in the future.
