Pointillistic pumpkins

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Wednesday afternoon art students explored pointillism and pumpkins this autumn.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students employed tempera paint and cotton swabs to create their art.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Using warm colors and pumpkin colors in a pattern of dots, students worked to create a unique dot-based pumpkin.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image. Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The term “Pointillism” was first coined by art critics in the late 1880s to ridicule the works of these artists, and is now used without its earlier mocking connotation.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

After completing their painted pumpkins, students cut out their images and applied them to a solid color background.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here are some examples of the students work.

Symbols of hope

DSCN9441

The Art Junction has returned to the Willard Hope Center this fall to offer some creative opportunities to the student members.

DSCN9420

This fall we explored symbols and how many symbols surround us in our daily life.

DSCN9429

We explored combining the various symbols together to create a pleasing design to the students.

DSCN9424

Everyone enjoyed the activity and could easily relate to the symbols we encounter daily.

DSCN9432

Everyone chose different combinations of symbols.

DSCN9427

A symbol is an object that represents, stands for, or suggests an idea, visual image, belief, action, or material entity. Symbols take the form of words, sounds, gestures, or visual images and are used to convey ideas and beliefs. For example, a red octagon may be a symbol for “STOP”.

DSCN9428

These symbol ideas will be used in an upcoming painting project the student members will be participating in.

DSCN9440

Everyone had fun in the creative opportunity and the fellowship we had.
