PLEASE SUPPORT the emerging art talents of these young artists by attending their exhibition this spring as they visually express themselves and the greater community around them. This work has been on permanent display in the various elementary buildings and the board of education. Now see the work collectively in one exhibit as we transition into the new Willard Schools facility.

The students’ paintings will be on sale during the exhibit for $20 each. All proceeds from the sale of their artwork will be placed in the art fund for the Elementary Art Program. Their artwork would be a great addition to your home, business or organization!

Layers

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students at the Willard Hope Center added a second layer of paint to their paintings.

Everyone learned how to use masking tape to add dimension to their images.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students added another layer of color to the images.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone was excited to see their results with using the masking tape.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It was great fun to see the students become involved in the creative process as the painting process moved forward.

Multicolored painting

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We began the painting project at the Willard Hope Center this past week.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Student members eagerly began the process of giving their canvases a base coat of acrylic paint.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

For many of the students it was their first encounter with painting on canvas with acrylics.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It was an exciting beginning for everyone as to learn to use a  brush and create uniform strokes to cover their canvas.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Energy was high as everyone busily covered their blank canvas with a bright color.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Next week we will begin to mix colors and add shapes to the canvases.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It was lots of fun to interact with the student members and see their eagerness to participate.

Painting classes

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The Art Junction offers many different classes.  One of our favorite is the expressive painting class where everyone explores painting, new techniques and materials together with having a lot of fun!

Expressive painting

Many students come to the Art Junction to explore new, expressive painting techniques while creating their own paintings.

Expressive painting -week1

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We began our summer painting class with a blank canvas last week.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The beginning is always the hardest part of starting the creative process.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Participants really jumped into the process of covering the canvas with their ideas in paint.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Starting with an idea and allowing it to flow over the canvas is the beginning concept for the first session of the expressive painting class.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Studio time flew by as everyone enjoyed the initial experience in the studio.  I’m looking forward to seeing their work develop over the next several weeks.

Symbols

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Hope Center members work to complete their symbol paintings for the Hope Center Auction.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Adding lines, color and texture have been many of the lessons the student members have explored through this year-long project.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Every week we have worked with the students we have had different students work on the paintings which has truly made this work a community effort.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone has learned about symbols in the Christian church and symbols that we encounter in daily life.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Many of the symbols we see we take for granted, and many of the symbols we encounter we really don’t understand their meaning.  Hope Center students have explored these ideas in this project.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It has been interesting to see what images have drawn the students interest and how they have interacted with the work.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It has been fun to see them interact and grow as they explore visual art.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here are some examples of their work in progress.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The next post will show the next step as the students learn how to apply stencils and spray paint to their images.

Symbol painting

100_6387

We have an on-going painting project at the Willard Hope Center with the student members.

100_6391

Students are creating paintings based upon symbols of the Christian church.

100_6374

We have had different students working each session on the paintings, and it has really become a community project.

100_6389

Students are learning about their own abilities as they step out in faith to push their artistic skills in new areas.

100_6384

Students are also learning about symbols of the church and how they tell a story.  Their artwork will be on sale this spring to help support the work of the Hope Center.

Symbols of hope

100_5611

Using the theme of symbols, student members of the Hope Center have embarked on a painting project based on the symbols of the Christian faith.

100_5613

Students learned how to transfer the symbol onto canvas using a projected image.

100_5958

Students have been learning how to add detail and texture to the background of their canvas.

100_6064

After tracing their symbols with permanent marker, students have continued to add texture and layers of color to the background of their canvas.

100_6071

This has been a fun process for the students at the Hope Center.

100_5941

This project has encouraged the students to reflect on the symbol and it’s meaning as they add their own input into the paintings.

100_6073

We are taking a break from this painting project until the holidays have passed.  The students are learning that the process of creating a painting requires patience and develops skills, thoughtfulness and understanding.
