When you support local art from an independent artist you are buying more than just a painting, drawing, or photograph. You are buying hundreds of hours of experimentation and thousands of failures. You are buying days, weeks, months, years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You are not just viewing a thing; you are viewing a piece of a heart, a part of a soul, a private moment in someone’s life. Most importantly, you are participating with the artist and providing them encouragement for something they are truly passionate about. That’s why we hope you will join us and view our Invitational Summer Art Exhibition

A Harvest of Attributes

fruit of the spirit

Coming this autumn

-a new visual art project that is a collaboration of The Art Junction and New Haven United Methodist Church.

A Harvest of Attributes: art that examines the fruit of the spirit.

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit is a biblical term that sums up nine attributes of a Christian life according to Paul in his Letter to the Galatians “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

  1. Love –Nancy Beckett
  2. Joy –James Easter
  3. Peace –Alec Casto
  4. Forbearance/patience -Kevin Casto
  5. Kindness –David Wolff
  6. Goodness –Cynde Spyker
  7. Faithfulness –Karen Wilson
  8. Gentleness –Lynda Stoneham
  9. Self-control –Anita Andrews

The Art Junction and New Haven United Methodist Church present an exhibit to examine the fruit that identifies a Christian through visual art.

This group exhibit of nine visual artists will examine and lead the viewer through a visual journey and communicate a message of Christian love and encouragement.  The exhibit will invite the community to examine the attributes of the Christian life that can be gained through a life centered on Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.

We are auctioning off a watercolor painting of the Willard Clock Tower by former Willard artist Teruko Wilde who now creates and resides in Taos, New Mexico.

auction.jpg

Teruko Wilde was born in Nagoya, Japan. After moving to the United States as a teenager she studied at the University of Cincinnati and Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio. An award-winning artist, Ms. Wilde has had numerous one-person and group shows. She initially established herself as a prominent pastel and watercolor artist before moving to Taos, NM in 1986. Expansive southwestern skies, approaching storms, and moody sunsets describe the colorful oil paintings of Teruko Wilde, which became known as her ‘Southwest Series’ and have been in popular demand for more than a decade. She has said that Mother Nature creates beautiful artwork in her sunsets, mountains, and trees…Ms. Wilde believes that it is her job as a fine artist to alter and reinterpret that beauty into beautiful and joyful paintings.

Lynda Stoneham

DSCN6146

The Art Junction was honored to exhibit the works of local artist Lynda Stoneham.  Her show “Dimensions of a Decade” is an exhibit of drawings and paintings selected from work that Lynda completed during the past ten years. Lynda expresses “this work reveals my insatiable appetite for making visual narratives of life around me. My tools and materials are pretty traditional, my style is realistic, but my subject matter is eclectic. I see exciting incidents of life everywhere and choose a medium according to the time available to record the scene. The phrase “Jack of all trades, master of none” applies to me as I work in moments stolen from a busy lifestyle without serious study of any single technique.”

Lynda Stoneham is a graduate of Ashland University with a degree in art education. She has taught art in Elyria and Bellevue City Schools and is currently the art instructor at Christie Lane School in Norwalk. Lynda is managing director of Artists’ Open Studio, Inc., a non-profit organization which supports adult artists with and without disabilities in painting and ceramic studios. She continues her education by attending frequent workshops at Cleveland Institute of Art. Lynda is a member of the Firelands Area Art League. Her work is featured at Hidden Creek Pottery in Milan, Ohio and in many private collections. She and her husband Dennis live in rural Norwalk. They have two grown children and two grandsons.

A visit to the Art junction

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone enjoyed seeing the various examples and exhibits of the artist’s varied work from sculpture, drawings and paintings to examples of his carvings.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students had many questions about the life of the artist who was the first art teacher at the Willard City Schools.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The third graders enjoyed seeing the art work of former students of the artist.

Some of Charles’ former students have become professional artists, such as Don Moore and Steve Axtel, while others have made art a serious pursuit or hobby.

It was a great field trip for the students to connect with local art in their community and to learn about the art history of their town.

The artwork of Drue Roberts

2012-02-22_19-54-32_378

Drue Roberts graduated from Willard High School in 1993 and went on to study Geology. After graduate school, he became an environmental geologist performing studies at superfund sites, the military and national laboratories. Drue is a self-taught artist who specializes in acrylic painting and has shown his work in Santa Fe, New Mexico and in Ohio. He and his wife have travelled the country and now reside in Granville, Ohio with their two boys.  Drue had a one man show at the Art Junction in the fall of 2012.

Art is an extension of the inner artist and there is always some trepidation in sharing so much of one’s self. “When I think of showing my artwork in my hometown, it simply terrifies me,” Roberts shared. “Here I stand at the midpoint of my life worrying how people I haven’t seen in 20 years will react to it. Much of what I’ve spent my life seeing, analyzing and interpreting is wrapped up in these paintings.” A lot of how he sees the world has been colored by his experiences and the culture that exists in Willard, Ohio.
