Circular design

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Wednesday afternoon art students recently explored the circle as they created circles with stencils.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students used a variety of stencils and circular objects to create their composition.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students picked their favorite colors to trace and fill in the shapes.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This step required much concentration as students worked hard to fill in their circles with various colors.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The next step was to add a wash of color over their circle design.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here are a few examples of their work.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The final step after their image dried was to outline their circles with marker.

This was an enjoyable yet challenging project for the students as they learned new concepts and developed their skills.

Symbols of hope

100_5611

Using the theme of symbols, student members of the Hope Center have embarked on a painting project based on the symbols of the Christian faith.

100_5613

Students learned how to transfer the symbol onto canvas using a projected image.

100_5958

Students have been learning how to add detail and texture to the background of their canvas.

100_6064

After tracing their symbols with permanent marker, students have continued to add texture and layers of color to the background of their canvas.

100_6071

This has been a fun process for the students at the Hope Center.

100_5941

This project has encouraged the students to reflect on the symbol and it’s meaning as they add their own input into the paintings.

100_6073

We are taking a break from this painting project until the holidays have passed.  The students are learning that the process of creating a painting requires patience and develops skills, thoughtfulness and understanding.

Symbols of hope

The Art Junction has returned to the Willard Hope Center this fall to offer some creative opportunities to the student members.

DSCN9420

This fall we explored symbols and how many symbols surround us in our daily life.

DSCN9429

We explored combining the various symbols together to create a pleasing design to the students.

DSCN9424

Everyone enjoyed the activity and could easily relate to the symbols we encounter daily.

DSCN9432

Everyone chose different combinations of symbols.

DSCN9427

A symbol is an object that represents, stands for, or suggests an idea, visual image, belief, action, or material entity. Symbols take the form of words, sounds, gestures, or visual images and are used to convey ideas and beliefs. For example, a red octagon may be a symbol for “STOP”.

DSCN9428

These symbol ideas will be used in an upcoming painting project the student members will be participating in.

DSCN9440

Everyone had fun in the creative opportunity and the fellowship we had.

Drawing Lab -Week 4

DSCN7077

Week 4 found the drawing lab group exploring a continuous line and how to incorporate this idea into drawing various subjects.

DSCN7082

The artist Paul Klee said that “a line drawing is like taking a dot for a walk.”  In this week’s lab we went for a walk, skipped a little and began to run.

DSCN7079

A continuous line drawing is actually a very powerful way to create a piece that is both hard-edged and fluid, representational and abstract, rational and emotional all in one.

DSCN7080

Known as unbroken line drawing, continuous line drawing or blind object drawing, the premise is that the pen, pencil or another easy writing instrument never leaves the paper until you are done.

DSCN7083

To do this type of drawing you need a pencil or any writing element that offers a smooth, continuous line and a smooth, blank piece of paper. Choose something you want to draw such as a person, flower, fruit or whatever inspires you.

DSCN7086

In the drawing lab we are trying to capture the essence of the object and the idea of movement.

DSCN7085

The final part of this week’s exercise was to add color to the images we created.

Drawing Lab -Week 1

DSCN6672

Drawing Lab began last week with a session of exploration and imagination.

DSCN6670

Using lines and scribbles as a beginning point participants were looking to have fun with the drawing experience…following the creative trail on its imaginative journey.

DSCN6668

Curious images appeared from various collaborations.

DSCN6671

Simple tools were used as a fun time of creative exploration was embarked upon.  Wish you could have joined in the fun…maybe next time!
