“If you could say it with words there would be no need for painting.” Through this project students were given an opportunity to understand this idea from Edward Hopper.

Summer Art Camp

Summer Art Camp is only five months away!  During these cold days of winter it’s nice to think of what we have to look forward too.  We also have winter workshops at the Art Junction to help beat your winter blues!

Art Camp Jr. was held this past week, and all of the kids enjoyed our theme of bugs.

On the first day of camp everyone explored building their own imaginary bug out of found objects in the Art Junction.  The second day, campers worked on painting and designing their bugs.

Campers also created chalk art bugs using many new techniques.

Campers also used watercolor paint to begin a bug painting.

Adding marker to the watercolor design, campers defined their images with strong lines.

Picasso said that “every child is an artist.  The problem is how to remain an artist once they grow up.”  I think I know the answer: continue to make art with kids.

Finally we explored mixing primary and secondary colors with paint scrapers.

Paint Day

November 17, 2012 was our Fun with Paint Workshop where participants explored many different ways to work with paint.

Participants explored splatter painting, painting with their finger and using paint scrapers during the painting process.

It was a fun day to let loose and jump into the creative process of painting with tempera paints.

Workshop participants created many wonderful painted expressions which were given front porch drying time.

Splatter painting and being expressive with a brush is a very freeing experience.

There was even a new method experimented with…dual painting with two brushes at a time.

Everyone had fun in this exploratory workshop.  Maybe you can join us for our next workshop?!  Paintings have a life of their own that derives from the painter’s soul.”-Vincent van Gogh
