A Harvest of Attributes: art that examines the fruit of the spirit.

fruit of the spirit

In a season of change and transition, art is a deep voice, which speaks authentically to our times, and the reality of what is and to the possibility of what might be. The Art Junction and New Haven United Methodist Church present art that examines the fruit of the spirit, which identifies the characteristics of a Christian through visual art.

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit is a biblical term that sums up nine attributes of the Christian life according to Paul in his Letter to the Galatians “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23.

Artists participating in this exhibit are locally and regionally known around Ohio for their talents. Nancy Beckett from Norwalk, James Easter -Toledo, Alec Casto –Willard, David Wolff – Collins, Cynde Spyker –Attica, Karen Wilson – New Haven, Lynda Stoneham – North Fairfield, Anita Andrews – Bellevue, and Kevin Casto – Willard

Art is a symbol, pointing to something else that is beyond us and what we can strive for as an individual and as a community… this group exhibit is The Art Junction and New Haven United Methodist Church’s method to reach out and share a visual story with our community. Community arts provide a new gathering place, a cultural and spiritual touchstone that is a source of community revitalization and neighborhood revival.

The exhibit invites the viewer to examine, participate and listen to the visual story of the attributes of the Christian life that can be gained through surrender to the power of the Holy Spirit.

The exhibition of artwork opens Sunday, October 27 and runs through November 24, 2019. There will be a closing reception at the end of the exhibition on Sunday, November 24 at 11:15 a.m. The exhibit is located in the New Haven United Methodist Church at 2644 Prairie Street in New Haven, Ohio. Special showings are available upon request.

Landscape art

Landscape painting by Drue Roberts who was part of our group landscape exhibit last autumn.  Plan to attend our next group exhibit coming in September 2015!

Closing weekend

Come view over 170 canvases from six years of emerging talent from the visual art students of Richmond, New Haven, Central and the former Greenfield Schools from the 2008-2014 school years. Under the direction of artist/teacher Kevin Casto, students have been introduced to painting and explored various themes, concepts and skills along with color theory and art history with mixed mediums on 16 x 20” canvas.

PLEASE SUPPORT the emerging art talents of these young artists by attending their exhibition this spring as they visually express themselves and the greater community around them. This work has been on permanent display in the various elementary buildings and the board of education. Now see the work collectively in one exhibit as we transition into the new Willard Schools facility.

The students’ paintings will be on sale during the exhibit for $20 each. All proceeds from the sale of their artwork will be placed in the art fund for the Elementary Art Program. Their artwork would be a great addition to your home, business or organization!

The Art Junction is located at 2634 Prairie Street New Haven, OH next to the New Haven United Methodist Church.
