Shades of gray

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The older students in our Wednesday Afternoon Art Class explored mixing shades of black and various tints of white in our final project of the autumn.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students divided their project into geometric shapes with a ruler and pencil.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The next step was to add different types of blacks and white to their images.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This project challenged the students’ skills as they learned to combine many different concepts together into one idea.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The students worked hard as they focused their attention on this project.

Clay monsters

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Wednesday afternoon art students explored clay for their last class of the autumn session.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students explored basic clay concepts as they learned how to use the clay and form various geometrical shapes.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students created a basic pinch pot and began to transform it into a clay monster.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone was focused on the building process.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students were given the opportunity to incorporate craft sticks, wire, beads and pipe cleaners into their monster creations.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone enjoyed the process and working with the clay.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Each student had a different method of creating their clay monster.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It’s fun to see how each student takes the creative process in a different direction.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I hope you have enjoyed seeing their clay monsters created out of oil-based clay and a few odds and ends around our studio.  Maybe you can join us for our next session this winter?

Cat Collage

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Wednesday Afternoon Art students explored collage with non-traditional materials this autumn.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students began with a drawing of a cat using basic shapes. They then transferred their idea into paper shapes which they cut out.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The next step was to cut out and glue all of the body shapes using newsprint.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This required a lot of focus as students referred back to their initial drawing during the creative process.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students enjoyed the process which was much like creating a puzzle as they made parts and put them together.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The scrap paper box was very handy in adding details to the cats with many different colors.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here are some examples of the students’ collages.
