Expressive painting -week1

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We began our summer painting class with a blank canvas last week.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The beginning is always the hardest part of starting the creative process.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Participants really jumped into the process of covering the canvas with their ideas in paint.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Starting with an idea and allowing it to flow over the canvas is the beginning concept for the first session of the expressive painting class.

Studio time flew by as everyone enjoyed the initial experience in the studio.  I’m looking forward to seeing their work develop over the next several weeks.

Finishing touches

Students at the Willard Hope Center were busily completing their symbol paintings the month of April.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Our last three sessions consisted of stencil painting, adding one last layer of color and a final coat of gloss.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students placed their stencils on the paintings and taped them down.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

After some brief instruction students set about spray painting the images on their canvases.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We were blessed with a very windy day that challenged our painting session.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone was excited about their results from the painting session.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The second session in April students added more color to their images after the outdoor spray painting session.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone had their own thoughts on how to complete their images.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The final session was to add gloss to their paintings.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone worked hard to complete these wonderful symbol paintings.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here are examples of the students’ paintings that were sold at the auction in May.

Expressive painting -week 5

DSCN9119

Fifth week of our expressive painting class had lots of energy!

DSCN9121

Everyone was busy with their creative ideas and explorations.

DSCN9122

The creative process engages the whole person in a pursuit of discovery.

DSCN9127

Jackson Pollock expressed that “painting is self-discovery and every good artist paints what he is.”  The participants in our class are truly exploring who they are in their paintings.  That’s a lot of fun to watch and experience.

Come view the expressionistic paintings of the Willard City Schools 4th grade visual art students under the direction of artist/teacher Kevin Casto. Students explored the theme of music in the style of expressionism with mixed media on 16 x 20” canvas.  Students worked in groups as they combined the ideas of music and expressionism to create Visual Music. Support the emerging art talents of these young artists by attending their exhibition this spring as they visually express themselves and the greater community around them.

The 4th grade students’ 16” x 20” expressionistic paintings will be on sale during the exhibit.  All proceeds from the sale of their artwork will be placed in the Outdoor Education fund for their 6th grade experience at Mohican Outdoor School. We hope you will participate!  Their artwork would be a great addition to your home, business or organization!
