Learning to use masking tape to create various sizes and widths of lines was a new idea for the students.

DSCN8283

Choosing the right colors to add a new layer is a fun but challenging task.

DSCN8288

The results of the new layer were very exciting to the kids.

The next step was to add another layer of lettering using stencils and spray paint.

100_3845

Everyone was excited to learn this process.

100_3853

Multiple layers of lettering and color were added to the images.

100_3861

With immediate results the kids were thrilled with this process.

Painting at the Hope Center- part 2

DSCN8124

Week two of painting at the Hope Center finds the kids adding text to their images.

DSCN8129

Kids are using the theme of Hope as they add color to the stenciled letters on their canvas, learning to control paint and brush together.

DSCN8136

There is a real community to the painting process as everyone works in one accord.

DSCN8140

Some of the kids really enjoy the focus of this new endeavor.

DSCN8132

Hope is a concept that the kids are exploring.  Martin Luther King stated that “everything that is done in the world is done by hope.” We seek to introduce this to the kids.

Crayon Explosion

DSCN7966

The Art Junction had a fun workshop called Crayon Explosion.

DSCN7980

Participants enjoyed exploring many different methods of using crayons in new and unusual methods.

DSCN7987

Learning to melt crayons was lots of fun for all.

DSCN8001

Painting with crayon was another fun experiment for everyone as they learned to draw with a warm, soft crayon.

DSCN7999

We also created crayons from what was left melted in the muffin tin.

DSCN7992

Everyone enjoyed the creative process.

DSCN7993

Crayon shavings were also used to create melted images with the iron.

DSCN7997

Lots of fun accidents and explorations were had by all participants.

DSCN7990

Working together everyone explored this somewhat familiar medium.

DSCN7994

Maybe you can join us for our next crayon explosion session in the future at the Art Junction.

Painting at the Hope Center

DSCN8047

The Art Junction recently began a painting program with the kids at the Willard Hope Center on Tuesday afternoons.

DSCN8039

Students are exploring acrylic painting to express themselves and to create paintings to be used in the Hope Center’s upcoming auction at the end of May.

DSCN8037

During the first painting session students explored mixing and blending related colors as they applied the first layer of color to the canvas.

DSCN8033

Everyone enjoyed the process of mixing and applying color.  It seems to be a very therapeutic process to the kids.

DSCN8038

Vincent van Gogh stated, “The only time I feel alive is when I’m painting.”  I think the students at the Hope Center felt alive during our first session.
